Budget Friendly Ideas

I’m a stay-at-home mom right now, and my hope is that I’ll be able to continue this for the next year as well. In order to do this, my family has had to cut back in certain areas and find cheaper ways of doing things.

Here are some pretty easy ways we’ve decided to save a few bucks.

  • Homemade laundry detergent
    • My mom’s recipe is what I used, and it cost me about $30, and the powder is going to last much longer than a bottle of Tide. Plus, it works for my baby! It was really easy and took me about half an hour to make.
  • Homemade baby wipes
    • Again, I got this from my mom. Here’s the recipe
      • One half a roll of Bounty paper towls (cut the roll in half using a serrated knife) + 2 cups of water + 2 tablespoons of baby soap + 2 tablespoons of baby oil.
      • I don’t exactly know how much this cost, because I’m using just a portion of soap and oil, but I’m certain it’s cheaper than baby wipes!
  • Homemade Coffee Creamer
    • Seriously, thanks Mom for all the ideas… here’s the link to that recipe. Lots of flavor ideas, and we’ll just reuse an old coffee creamer container to store it.
  • Cloth Diapers
    • These are more expensive to buy upfront, but luckily, we got several packs for shower gifts and Christmas gifts. Our baby is 4 months old, and we’ve bought one pack of disposable diapers. The rest has been gifts or cloth. It’s not as bad as everyone makes it out to be; you just have to get over the poop touching. Not a big deal, really.
  • Chest Freezer
    • With the extra amount of freezer space, we’ve been able to stock up more when there are good sales, and save food for longer periods of time. We got ours from Walmart, and it works really well!

This is all I’ve got for now. These may all seem small, but I do believe they will add up as time goes by.

Any other money saving suggestions?
