Personal Reflection

My 2019 Goals

With a new year comes new challenges, hopes, and dreams. This year, I’m going to attempt to be more deliberate about the resolutions I’ve set for myself in the hopes that I’ll keep them. Last year, my only resolution was to finish an ABC reading challenge, and it was great when I accomplished that. This year, I’ve got a few more.

  • Read one chapter of Harry Potter every day.
    • I’m really excited about this, because I know it’s going to be a struggle to stop at one chapter. I read the first chapter of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone this morning, and I’m having a difficult time not picking the book back up and just finishing it. There aren’t 365 chapters, so when I finish the seventh book, I’ll start back over at the beginning.
  • Complete one reading challenge.
    • I picked this challenge by POPSUGAR. There’s a total of 50 books on this challenge, which is a step up from last year’s 26, but I’m excited for the challenge. I’ll have to work hard and read a lot.
  • Read five books that I own and haven’t read yet.
    • My TBR shelf is increasing at an alarming rate and I should attempt to work on that, right?
    • For my book challenges, be sure to check out my book blog, where I’ll be posting reviews and reflections.
  • Do daily devotions.
    • I need to be better about deliberately setting aside time each day to spend in God’s Word and in prayer.
  • Lose at least 15 pounds.
    • This is something Miguel and I are kind of working on together. We’ve set some ground rules for how we’re going to do that: decreasing portion size, increasing activity levels, and no eating/drinking anything but water after 8:00pm.
  • Go on one walk every day with Miguel.
  • Crochet three blankets.
  • Every time something happy or big or fun happens to me and/or Miguel, we’re going to add it to a jar, our Happy Jar, and at the end of the year, we’re going to read through the jar as a way to celebrate and reflect on the past year.

I’m really excited for this new year; a lot of big things are going to be happening in my life and in the lives around me. Setting and accomplishing these goals will help me get through the year with a smile.
