Personal Reflection

A few of my most favorite quotes

I keep a notebook of quotes that I come across and want to remember or think are worth memorizing and keeping in my quote bank. Because that notebook is steadily growing, I can’t share them all. I’m going to try to narrow down some of my very favorites and share them here. My biggest dream is to wind up in someone else’s quote bank someday. That would be the greatest achievement.

  • “There is an eagle in me that wants to soar, and there is a hippopotamus in me that wants to wallow in the mud.” Carl Sandburg
  • “Heaven knows we need never be ashamed of our tears for they are rain upon the blinding dust of the earth, overlying our hard hearts.” Great Expectations, Charles Dickens
  • “As human beings, we need to know that we are not alone, that we are not crazy or completely out of our minds, that there are people out there who feel as we do, live as we do, love as we do, who are like us.” Billy Joel
  • “I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something, and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.” Edward Everett Hale
  • “Jesus has forgiven you all your sins, so now because of Him, God loves you. It’s not such a big deal if there are a few human beings that think little of you. Your God thinks you’re special and worthy.” Rev. Ronnie Koch (hey, Dad, you made it!)
  • “Today you are you, and that’s truer than true. There is no one alive that is youer than you.” Dr. Seuss
  • “Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.” Ralph Waldo Emmerson
  • “We are all in the process of being made into what we are supposed to be.” Dr. Neal Migan
  • “There is no sin, and there can be no sin, on all the earth, which the Lord will not forgive to the truly repentant! Men cannot commit a sin so great as to exhaust the infinite love of God.” The Brothers Karamazov, Fyodor Dostoevsky
  • “I will not say that everything was utterly commonplace because I doubt if anything can be that except to utterly commonplace people.” “The Haunted House,” Charles Dickens
  • “Experience is what you get when you didn’t get what you wanted. And it’s often the most valuable thing you have to offer.” Randy Pausch
  • “People generally see what they look for and hear what they listen for.” Harper Lee
  • “The world will give you pig shit. The secret to a happy life is learning to accept it as pork sausage.” The Tsar of Love and Techno, Anthony Marra

  1. I read a quote the other day where a gal was speaking of a man she was dating, after she found out he killed his wife and 3 kids
She said “I think the cheese was sliding off his cracker long before he ever found me!”
