God Is My Shield

I’ve always known and believed that God is my strength and shield. But until lately, I hadn’t fully considered what that means for me. I’ve always gone along with the idea that he keeps me and protects me from sin, death, and the power of the devil.

Not until a Bible study did I realize it’s a bit more than that.

God stands between us and other people’s junk.

How cool is that? Not only is he protecting us from the devil, but he’s protecting us from the hurt and harm that come from the junk and baggage that our friends, family, and loved ones carry around.

Let’s be honest. Everyone has junk. And sometimes, that junk can be really harmful for you. But God shields us from that junk. He protects us from the baggage of others that could hurt us. He is standing in front of us, blocking the junk that is thrown our way.

Next time you’re handling a difficult person who is frustrating you and causing you pain, remember that God is standing between you, giving you strength to endure it, and shielding you from their junk.

This God—his way is perfect;
the word of the Lord proves true;
he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him. (Psalm 18:30)
