Leaves Dropping Off Trees

The weather is changing. The heat has broken. There’s a chill in the air. Pumpkin Spice is everywhere. Sweaters are out of boxes and folded in drawers. Boots are brought up from the basement and scarves are unfolded and hung.

Fall is coming!

I love a good fall. I think it’s breathtaking to see all the reds and yellows and oranges God has given us in October. I love that crisp-leaf smell in the air and the drop of temperature. I love carving pumpkins and corn mazes. I love celebrating Thanksgiving with the ones I love.

Summer is okay because I like summer activities: hiking, camping, swimming, fishing… But I hate heat. I don’t do well in heat. I hate sweat and I hate humidity. I care less about summer now that I’m out of school and can’t celebrate a break.

My favorite season is winter. I love winter. And fall is the promise that winter is right around the corner. Soon, it’ll snow. I can watch the world around me be cleansed in that white blanket of frozen water and dust. Soon, I can pull out the hot chocolate, Christmas sweaters, and Hallmark movies.

But for now, I can relax. Breathe in the leaves. And wait. Winter will be here soon.
